Ben Barnes’ wife is Aubrey Cleland, a singer and actress who competed on season 12 of “American Idol” in 2013. Barnes, 45, announced the marriage on Instagram on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after Page Six reported the wedding on October 12.
The “Narnia,” “Westworld,” and “Shadow and Bone” actor hasn’t said exactly when they married, so the date is reported, not confirmed. Here’s what’s on the record about Cleland, how the couple got here, and where outlets don’t agree.
Quick Facts
- Wife: Aubrey Cleland, 33, per Geo News
- Known for: “American Idol” season 12 (2013), plus music, acting, and painting
- Wedding location: Oregon, reportedly Chateau de Lis, per Just Jared as cited by Hollywoodlife
- Wedding date: reported as Sunday, October 11, 2026, by Page Six via Enstarz; not confirmed by the couple
- Announcement: joint Instagram post on October 14, 2026
- Children: none mentioned in the sources I read
What Barnes Said
Barnes called himself a “proud husband” in the caption, per Hollywoodlife. He wrote: “I married a woman of such rare grace, kindness and beauty.”
Geo News quotes two more lines from his post: “In a world of 8 billion people, it is extraordinary to find someone who feels like your person,” and “We are so happy and so excited for everything to come.”
Who Is Aubrey Cleland?
Cleland competed on season 12 of “American Idol” in 2013. Enstarz says she reached the Top 20, and that contemporary coverage listed her among the semifinalists. After that, she moved into acting, per Hollywoodlife.
Her credits are reported differently:
- Hollywoodlife says she has acted in “The Pitt” and “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”
- Enstarz says her Prime Video profile credits her on “Black Widow” and “Lethal Weapon,” and notes these weren’t leading roles.
I couldn’t check either list against a primary source such as IMDb. They may both be accurate, but I wouldn’t state any of the credits as fact without a second source.
Enstarz also says Cosmopolitan’s August profile described her as a self-taught abstract painter, and that her website has an art portfolio. I couldn’t open that profile.
How They Got Together
The sources are loose on this.
- December 2024: Cleland played Barnes’ love interest in the music video for his single “Nevermind,” per Hollywoodlife. Enstarz dates the single December 6, 2024.
- July 2025: The pair were spotted on a date in London, per Hollywoodlife.
- 2023: Geo News says they began dating in 2023. Its text says they dated for three years, while a photo caption says two, so it contradicts itself.
If the July 2025 sighting is the first public one, a 2023 start would mean they kept it private for a long time. I’d say they “kept the relationship largely private,” which Geo News and OhNoTheyDidnt both say, and leave the start date out.
The Engagement
Geo News cites Page Six saying Barnes proposed on New Year’s Eve 2025. Enstarz says the same date, and adds that the proposal was in England. Enstarz also says Page Six reported the engagement itself in August 2026, which means it was a proposal that stayed quiet for months.
I’d treat the proposal details as Page Six’s reporting, since neither of them has talked about it in the sources I read.
The Wedding
Page Six reported the wedding on October 12, 2026. Enstarz, citing Page Six, says it was Sunday, October 11, at Chateau de Lis in Oregon, which is in Cleland’s home state, per OhNoTheyDidnt. The couple’s own Instagram post, according to Hollywoodlife, was tagged at Chateau de Lis in Oregon City, Oregon.
Hollywoodlife says the exact ceremony date hasn’t been made public. Geo News doesn’t give one either. No guest list has been reported.
Barnes’ Music
Barnes released a five-song EP, “Songs for You,” in 2021, per Enstarz. It says his debut album, “Where the Light Gets In,” came out January 10, 2025. Cleland appeared in the “Nevermind” video, which is how many readers first heard of her.
Barnes’ Rumored Past Relationships
Hollywoodlife’s piece includes three rumored links. Nothing here was confirmed by Barnes.
- Tamsin Egerton (2009): Linked after they were seen in Australia. She told the Daily Mail she once tried to set him up with a friend but he “wouldn’t bite,” per Hollywoodlife.
- Felicity Jones (2014): Fans linked them after they were photographed together at the Britannia Awards and in Los Angeles. The rumors faded.
- Julianne Hough (2021): Photographed getting ice cream in Venice, California, in January 2021. Neither addressed it, per Hollywoodlife.
I’d keep these in the “rumor” column. A photograph isn’t a relationship.

What Didn’t Sit Right in the Coverage
The date problem is the main one. The wedding date comes from Page Six, and the couple’s own post doesn’t state one that I could see. The relationship timeline is also contradictory across articles.
And the credits don’t match, as above. Hollywoodlife’s piece also lists old rumors right next to the news, which makes it easy to confuse speculation with fact.
What We Don’t Know
- The exact wedding date
- How and when they met
- Which acting credits are hers
- Whether they have children. No source says so
conclusion
Barnes is married to Aubrey Cleland, a musician and actress who had a short run on “American Idol” in 2013. The marriage is confirmed by his own post. The date and most of the backstory come from reporting, so I’d label them that way.
